Jeevan Asha Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre is unique as the only NGO in India offering free prosthetic devices. We specialize in advanced prosthetic solutions designed to provide optimal support and efficiency for our patients. Our limb fitment process is both concise and effective.
The entire procedure, from manufacturing the prosthesis in our workshop to fitting it and providing gait training, is completed within a week. We follow a six-step process to ensure efficiency and a smooth, streamlined experience for our patients.
We begin with a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s stump and overall health. This step ensures that we tailor the treatment to meet the patient's specific needs. If necessary, we recommend pre-fitting stump care or physiotherapy.
Measurements of the patient’s stump are taken, and a replica is created using POP (Plaster of Paris) bandages. This mould is then used to produce a carbon fiber laminated socket. Our workshop modifies the POP mould to achieve the precise shape and size required for the prosthesis.
The POP mould is removed from the stump and taken to our workshop for pouring and modification. We pour POP paste into the mould, allow it to dry, and then modify it to ensure an anatomical shape. This modified mould is crucial for the subsequent fabrication process.
Fabrication is a detailed procedure where we design a carbon laminated socket from the modified POP mould. The socket connects the prosthesis to the residual limb and is integral to the prosthetic's comfort and function. We use vacuum lamination technology to create a double-layer socket—an inner flexible foam layer for comfort and waterproofing, and an outer carbon lamination layer for durability. This process ensures optimal fit and comfort for our patients.
The final assembly of the prosthesis requires meticulous attention to detail. Our trained staff carefully assemble all parts to avoid any errors that could affect the prosthesis. After assembly, the prosthesis undergoes testing and is taken to the gait training room.
Gait training is a critical component of our limb fitment process. This stage involves various exercises and training to help patients adapt to their new prosthesis. We focus on weight-bearing, straight walking, and other essential movements to ensure patients can use their prosthesis effectively and independently. Training typically lasts 2-3 days, though we recommend a week for optimal comfort and adaptation.
At Jeevan Asha Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre, we prioritize gait training as it plays a crucial role in the successful integration of the prosthesis into the patient’s daily life. Our entire process, conducted on-site and under the supervision of our skilled doctors, is completed within 3-4 days, depending on individual needs.
